Ford GT Isn’t Road Legal

We already talked about the end of production of Ford’s latest supercar, which is known as the Ford GT. However, the truly final examples of this vehicle aren’t road-going. Instead, they’re track-only models that honor one of the most important cars in the company’s history. The cars are called the Ford GT Mk IV and pay homage to the famous Ford GT40, which was won at the 1967 Le Mans. Inspired by the race car, engineers spent a lot of time developing the final version of the vehicle.

Although Ford isn’t exactly sure about the details of the upcoming GT Mk IV, the company noted that it’s getting new features. One of these is a bespoke engine that produces over 800 horsepower and can be sent to the rear wheels via a race transmission.

It’s easy to build a new powertrain into the same shell that Ford used for the previous generation of the GT Run. However, instead of doing this, Ford decided to extend the body and the wheelbase of the vehicle for the Mk IV. This new model will be more capable on the track and improve its performance.

The price of the GT Mk IV is significantly higher than the track-only models that were advertised by Ford. If you’re one of the lucky 67 individuals who can get your hands on one of these cars, you’ll be able to spend around $1.7 million. Even then, you can probably expect to spend even more money on additional features if you want to customize the vehicle.

The company noted that the new models will be hitting the market in the spring of 2023. This means that the sleek supercar will be available to customers in time for the summer season.
